Marienbad, based upon the novel by Sholom Aleichem, marked the premiere of Sergei Zhenovach’s studio. The main characters include Nalevka Street in Warsaw and the small resort town of Marienbad. And in this performance it is not kilometres that come between them, but letters. Within these dispatches grave passions arise: conjugal swindlers weave intrigues, husbands choke with jealousy, and offended wives reproach their husbands’ suspiciousness. The only way to stop this flow of gossip is to stop opening these calamitous envelopes, but the letters are like a narcotic, without which life cannot go on. They are awaited with a predatory thirst for vengeance, and the hope of reading in them a prayer of forgiveness. The premiere was held on 13/01/2005 Performance duration: 2 h. 15 min.
