"There are no main and minor characters. in the PLAYERS.  In this play is only gained and lost. It is very cynical situation but if you have entered game, it is not important, how you will win, where and as you will swindle, differently will beat you. It would not desirable to be lost. And in such boundary situation people are shown differently, can be lovely, nice, charming, relentless, and severe, are disgusting... But the main thing for Nikolai Vasilevich - human history. It seems to me incorrect when in Gogol see only the top layer: everyone devil, horror stories and grotesque. It is necessary to leave from these infinite devil with which it is accepted associate Gogol. The inconsistent nature of Gogol more naive, than terrible. "Know where light, - you will understand where darkness " as Alexander Block said. Gogol plunged in dark to be issued. He felt the nature dark very well. And dark has property to tighten. But Gogol lasted to light and in it its internal drama".
