An evocative and unrestrained, provocative and sexual play, The Vagina Monologues has incited an enormous public response throughout the most diverse corners of the world, received a plethora of prestigious awards, and given birth to an abundance of rumours and suppositions. Within a few years since its publication, hundreds of professional productions had appeared in 53 countries around the world, which were seen by more than one million spectators. Eve Ensler’s play (based on the confessions of women of diverse nationalities, professions, ages and ideologies) was created to refute a prescribed taboo, to talk about that thing of which it is groundlessly unacceptable to talk.
