In this production, the theme of the artist and sickness is addressed literally: an artist, played by Evgeny Mironov, is inside a psychiatric hospital. Director Valery Fokin almost renounces text entirely. The production is more an open space for experiment than it is a typical drama, being closer in form to a ballet performed by dramatic actors. Every sound (as composed by Alexander Bakshi), every geste, every step takes on meaning.
The director rejects any kind of definitive interpretation whatsoever. The performance is an attempt to immerse oneself in the distorted world of sickly inspiration, oftentimes threatening the health of the artist.
