The mission of The Meyerhold Centre is to: consolidate efforts to study, disseminate and develop the creative ideas of Meyerhold, as the most prominent artist and innovator to have influenced Russian and international theatre; and to support promising initiatives that arise within the theatre, as well as at the point of intersection between diverse art forms, in the live interaction of avant-garde and archaic forms. Without turning itself into an academic institute, nor into a repertoire theatre, The Meyerhold Centre is intended to be its own form of bridge between historical-theoretical investigation and experimental theatrical practice. What is The Meyerhold Centre? It is a laboratory. A studio, as Meyerhold loved to say. A work-place for professionals who still have questions to ask of life. A place, where risks can be taken, to search for new forms (which, strangely, are still necessary) without shunning the old ones, for without a certain level of conservatism, a healthy avant-garde cannot exist.
